Huntsville Parks and Rec works to keep up with city’s growth

Huntsville Parks and Recreation Director James Gossett has been on the job during a time of growth for his department.

He’s been the director for two years and has been with the city for about 10 years overall. A Huntsville native, he’s been involved with parks and recreation for about 30 years. He previously served as Huntsville’s recreation superintendent before taking over as director.

“We are a little different than some departments,” he said of his role as director. “We probably have between us, police and fire, the most daily public interactions of any of the departments of the city of Huntsville.”

He recently participated in a question-and-answer session with the Lede.

Legacy Park opened to the public this past week in northwest Huntsville. Can you talk a little about the park?
